October 29, 2014 (The Valley, Anguilla, BWI) - As the world's fifth largest captive insurance domicile, Anguilla has placed significant emphasis upon regulatory compliance and flexibility, with focus on captives for privately-held mid-market businesses. As such, it has become an attractive option for U.S. captive owners.
Earlier this month, Anguilla held its 2nd annual Captive Industry Day conference. The purpose of the conference was to gather feedback from the captive insurance industry to help improve Anguilla's regulatory and compliance standards.
Helen Nguyen, CPCU, ARM, CIC, who is Vice President of Insurance Operations at Houston, TX-based Capstone Associated Services, Ltd., was invited to participate in several panel discussions. Among the audience participants were members of the Anguilla Financial Services Commission and officials from the government of Anguilla, including the newly-appointed attorney general, Rupert Jones, and the U.K.'s Governor of Anguilla, Christina Scott. Also in attendance was the local head of Capstone's office, Fiona Curtis (left).
"Anguilla's outreach into the captive insurance community demonstrates its desire to cultivate an environment that is attractive to small captives," said Nguyen. "Anguilla continues to raise the bar by encouraging its regulators to obtain the ACI (Associate in Captive Insurance) certification and by soliciting input from industry practitioners. Capstone Insurance Management (Anguilla), Ltd. has operated a staffed office in Anguilla for five years. With its local presence, Capstone directly interfaces with regulators and addresses clients' issues more quickly and with better results. We frequently interact with the Anguillan government and the Financial Services Commission to advocate on behalf of our clients' interests."
